James Phillips, 70, of Leechburg, PA, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights.
A son of the late Oliver F. “Bill” Phillips and Stella Catherine “Tootie” (Segorek) Phillips, he was born October 26, 1946, in New Kensington, PA.
James was employed as a foreman of the cold mill for over 30 years with Allegheny Ludlum Steel before retiring in 1998. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam War. James was a member and former treasurer of the Leechburg Volunteer Fire Co. and the Fire Police. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, camping and going to the casinos.
Survivors include his daughter, Cathleen P. Beere (Joseph) of Kittanning, PA; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Ivy Beere; two brothers, Eugene F. Phillips (Linda) of Banfield, Gilpin Twp., PA, and Charles E. Phillips of New Kensington, PA; a sister, Ellagene M. Phillips of Leechburg, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet L. (Jones) Phillips on December 10, 2012; his stepmother, Leona (Fallone) Venturini Phillips; a brother, Robert “Pork” Phillips; a sister, Pearl Jane Minik; and a sister-in-law, Donna J. (Clowser) Phillips; and his beloved dog, Annie.
Friends welcomed by his family on Friday, March 17, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main Street, Leechburg (724-842-1051) where funeral ceremonies will be held at 10 AM on Saturday with the Reverend Gary J. Lyon officiating. The Leechburg Volunteer Fire Co. will conduct a service at 9:45 AM on Saturday prior to funeral ceremonies. Interment will be made at Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell, at the convenience of his family.
