William “Bill” Kelly Mason, 89, of Gilpin Township, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at Quality Life Services in Sarver.
A son of the late Charles W. Mason and Myrtle (Kelly) Mason, he was born August 1, 1933 in Sarver, PA.
Bill graduated in 1952 from Freeport High School as an active member of his class throughout his high school years. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 in Germany being honorably discharged as a Corporal. In 1958, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Grove City College. He continued post-graduate studies at the University of Pittsburgh and Indiana University graduating with a degree in education. On May 3, 1958, Bill married Beverly (Shuey) Mason at the former Assumption Church in Leechburg. He was a current member of Christ the King Parish in Gilpin Township where he served as a past member of Parish Council and past representative of Pastoral Council for the local Deanery.
Bill started working as a Science teacher at New Kensington then continued teaching at Kiski Area. He then worked as a Health Inspector at Allegheny County Health Department in Pittsburgh. He followed as a Safety Inspector for CNA Insurance Co. as well as Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. Bill was a long-time member of the Republican National Committee (being a strong Republican) and the National Rifle Association – a firm believer in the Constitution, especially the Second Amendment. He enjoyed hunting and fishing at camp for many years with his friends and family. Bill was a strong, devoted, caring, and above all, loving man to all his family and friends. He would help anyone with whatever or however he could. We can all remember Bill with his mouth open wide and his hearty laugh. He was such a fun and happy soul until Alzheimers took hold and changed him for the rest of his long years.
