William S. “Chief” Hohos Sr., 79, of West Leechburg, PA, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2020 at Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot.
A son of the late Stephen Hohos and Margaret (Pucko) Hohos, he was born October 3, 1941, in Natrona Heights.
William was a 1959 graduate of Har-Brack High School then joined the U.S. Navy where he was stationed in the Mediterranean. He was employed as a machinist with NUMEC then for Westinghouse/Curtis Wright retiring as a plant supervisor. But his true love was serving as the Chief of Police of West Leechburg Borough. He also served on the West Leechburg Borough Council and West Leechburg Water Authority.
William was an active member of the former St. Catherine Roman Catholic Church in Leechburg and currently Christ the King Parish in Gilpin Township where he acted as an usher. He enjoyed spending time at camp and fishing with his friend Lou, as well as tending to his garden. But he treasured most his family and the time he spent with them.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Barbara A. (Kolar) Hohos; three sons, William S. Hohos Jr. (Tracy) of Pittsburgh, Tim Hohos (Melissa) of Pine Township, Aaron Hohos (Laurie) of Leechburg; a daughter, Stephanie Hohos-Mahoney (Scott) of Erie; five grandchildren, Katherine, Carson, Tim, Hayden, Emma; brother-in-law, Tim Kolar (Maureen) of Brackenridge; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Theresa Welsh; father-in-law, Steve Kolar; mother-in-law, Wilma Kolar; brothers-in-law, Bill and Steve Kolar; stepgrandson, Joseph Caramellino III.
Friends will be welcomed by his family on Thursday, December 17, 2020 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Christ the King Parish, 125 Park Road, Gilpin Township, followed immediately by Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. James H. Loew, O.S.B. as celebrant. Interment following at Mt. Airy Memorial Cemetery in Natrona Heights with military honors conducted by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard. All visitors are asked to respectfully follow current state guidelines of required masks/face coverings, social distancing and gathering restrictions. The Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main Street, Leechburg (724-842-1051) has been entrusted with arrangements.
