Virgil Joseph “Skip” Bashline, 87, of Kyle, Texas, formerly of Leechburg, PA, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on Thursday, September 16, 2021.
A son of the late Ardale and Mary J. Bashline, he was born December 26, 1933, in Hyde Park.
Virgil attended Leechburg High School and graduated in 1952. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp immediately following high school and proudly served during the Korean War. Skip had been employed by the Leechburg Borough for 30 years before retiring in 1996. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races, Steelers football, reading the newspaper and especially spending time with his grandchildren and beloved pets. He was a former member of Christ The King Parish in Gilpin Township and a current member of St. Anthony Marie de Claret Catholic Church in Kyle, Texas.
Survivors include his dedicated and loving wife of 40 years, Cathy Bashline of Kyle, TX; his daughter, Mary Kate Bashline-McCormack (Cliff) of Kyle, TX; two granddaughters, Stephanie and Lindsay McCormack; a sister, Mary Ann Letterio; an aunt, Pat Kaminski; a niece, Nancyann Letterio; and two nephews, Lance and Larry Letterio.
A private committal service and interment will be held at St. Catherine Cemetery in Gilpin Township. Local arrangements have been entrusted to the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main Street, Leechburg (724-842-1051). Donations in memory of Virgil may be made to the Leechburg Public Library, 139 Market Street, Leechburg, PA 15656.
