Valerie M. (Majocha) Pastva Obituary

Valerie M. Pastva, 93, formerly of Gilpin Township, PA, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Quality Life Services in Apollo after lengthy illness.

A daughter of the late Lewis S. Majocha (June 1968) and Elizabeth (Safko) Majocha Galinac (Jan. 2009), she was born on July 17, 1931, in West Leechburg, PA.

Valerie graduated in 1949 from Leechburg High School and in 1950 from BTC (Business Training College – now known as Point Park College).  She had been employed by ALCOA in the metallurgy department office until her marriage in September 1957. After raising two children, she returned to work for the U.S. Postal Service in Leechburg as a rural letter carrier delivering RD#4 until her retirement in 1994.

Valerie was a member of RLCA Retirees, Armstrong County, and Christ the King Parish in Gilpin Township (and the former Assumption Catholic Church and St. Martha’s Roman Catholic Church in Leechburg).  She enjoyed travelling the USA on bus tours with her daughter, Linda, and friends with the Bob and Mary Kepics travel group.  She was active with card clubs, flower gardening, bird watching, crafting, mystery novels, puzzle books, and lunching with her ‘49ers classmates.  She loved most of all her time spent at the family camp in Kellettville, Forest County, PA, and her time spent with her granddaughter, Lindsey.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda S. Pastva-Callahan (Gary) of Allegheny Township; her son, Daniel L. Pastva of West Leechburg; granddaughter, Lindsey D. Pastva; step-granddaughter, Amanda Poydence-Meidus (Alfonso); three great-granddaughters; brother, David J. Majocha (Ruth) of West Leechburg; sisters, Evelyn M. Jennings (Gene) of Duncansville, Alice D. Cramer (late David) of Beaver Falls; sisters-in-law, Patricia A. Majocha (late Lewis A.) of Guilford, CT, Julia L. Pecus (Frank) of Hyde Park, Catherine A. Pastva (late Andrew M.) of Gilpin Township; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins in PA, OH, FL, VA, TX, AZ, TN.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Louis J. Pastva (July 1992); sister, Elizabeth “Betty Lou” Kolek (July 1988); brother, Lewis A. Majocha (January 2017); niece, Carol Romans (1985); nephew, Carl J. Kolek (Sept. 2021).

Friends will be welcomed by her family on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main St., Leechburg, 724-842-1051.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19, at Christ the King Parish, 125 Park Road, Leechburg, PA 15656, with the Rev. Alan N. Polczynski as celebrant.  Interment will follow at St. Catherine Cemetery in Gilpin Township.
