Ronald J. VanDervort, 94, of Leechburg, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at Concordia in Cabot.
A son of the late Sidney K. VanDervort and Margaret O. (Achenne) VanDervort, he was born October 14, 1928 in New Kensington, PA.
Ronald graduated from New Kensington High School and attended Clarion State Teachers College. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army. Ronald had been employed by Gulf Research & Development and MetLife companies earlier in his career before working in the maintenance department for Allegheny Ludlum Steel before retiring in 1993. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Leechburg and the U.S. Steel Workers’ Retirees. Ronald enjoyed reading, going on walks, traveling, working with his wife Lois in the garden, and seeing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his four sons, Mark VanDervort of Brackenridge, Shane VanDervort of Indiana, PA, Chris VanDervort (Kay) of Allegheny Township, Cole VanDervort (Gina) of Radford, VA; two daughters, Cheryl Carney of Vandergrift, Rhonda Barkey (Terry) of Butler; 12 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Lois Ann (Brown) VanDervort in November 2021; a son-in-law, Beryl Carney; a brother Robert S. VanDervort; and a sister, Norma Jean Wiedel.
Friends will be welcomed by his family on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral ceremonies beginning at 12 p.m. at the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main St., Leechburg, 724-842-1051 with Pastor Sara Wrona officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park in Lower Burrell.
