Robert George Danka, 77, of Vandergrift, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville, surrounded by his loving family.
A son of the late George and Martha K. (Crooks) Danka, he was born on October 7, 1944, in Kittanning, PA.
Bob spent his entire childhood palling around with his family and friends in the Georgetown section of Leechburg. He was a 1962 graduate of Leechburg Area High School. Upon graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army for three years serving as a radar technician in the U.S. Army Signal Corps at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. Bob was an active member of the American Legion Post 114 and an Auxiliary Member of the VFW Post 566, both out of Vandergrift, PA.
Bob was best known for making beautiful music as a very talented organist in churches in and around the Leechburg area for over 50 years. Most notably he played in the former parishes of St. Catherine’s and St. Martha’s in Leechburg. Bob could fix just about anything and was willing to help anyone who needed it. He often spent his free time maintaining and repairing pianos and organs in churches and private residences throughout the Alle-Kiski Valley. Bob also was passionate about classic cars, model trains, western movies, rock ‘n’ roll music, fishing, and attending his grandchildren’s activities.
Survivors include his wife of six years Darlene (Hamilton) Danka of Vandergrift; children, Jeffrey Danka of McIntyre, Tracy Bittinger (Troy) of Apollo, Leslie Bose (Abhijit) of Moon Township, Chad Danka (Kerrienne) of Sarver, and Robert S. Danka (Shannon) of Lower Burrell; brothers, Don Danka (Joannie) of Dallas, OR and Richard Danka (Cindy) of Apollo; grandchildren, Travis (Jenn), Tanner, Emmaline, Marissa, Grace, Owen, Hudson and Willow; and a great-grandson, Levi.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 23 years, Marsha (Wolfe) Danka, who passed away in 2004.
Friends will be welcomed by his family on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main St., Leechburg, 724-842-1051. Funeral ceremonies will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 8, at Hebron Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 Main Street, Leechburg, with Pastor Ryan Pusch and Rev. James V. Arter III co-officiating. Private interment will follow at St. Catherine Cemetery in Gilpin Township with military honors conducted by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard.
