Robert Joel Black, 75, of Gilpin Township, passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at UPMC St. Margaret Hospital in Aspinwall.

A son of the late John Robert Black and Margaret “Peg” (Lynch) Black, he was born June 4, 1948 in Pittsburgh, PA.

Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during the Vietnam War era.  He had been employed as a roll grinder by Allegheny Ludlum Steel for over 30 years at West Leechburg and Bagdad plants before retiring in 2004.  Robert was a member of the former Leechburg VFW Post 330 and former Commander of the Schenley American Legion Post 775 and Vandergrift American Legion Post 114.  He enjoyed camping and fishing, especially at Presque Isle in Erie and his camp in Godfrey.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Rebecca S. (Bopp) Black of Gilpin Township; three stepsons, Mark Moses (Jolene) of Washington Township, James Moses (Daniela) of Saudi Arabia, Jesse Moses (Emily) of Delmont; a granddaughter, Miranda Moses; a nephew, Sean Black (Courtney) of Allegheny Township; a niece, Sheena Black of Kittanning; and great-nephews, Jeht, Liam and Kole Black.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John “Mike” Black.

Friends will be welcomed by his family on Friday, December 15, 2023 from 3 p.m. until the time of funeral ceremonies beginning at 6 p.m. at the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main St., Leechburg, 724-842-1051, with Pastor Brad Ferko officiating.  Private interment will be held at Greenwood Memorial Park in Lower Burrell. 

A Celebration of Life will be held for Robert on May 12, 2024, which would be the date of his and Rebecca’s 40th wedding anniversary.  More information will be made available closer to that date.
