Richard “Dick” Burr, 85, of Melbourne, FL, formerly of Gilpin Township, PA, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at home.
Richard was born in Pittsburgh, PA, to Helen and Ralph Burr on October 20, 1939. He graduated from Brentwood High School in 1959. He retired from Alcoa Research & Development, New Kensington, in 1996 where he was issued a patent award for his work with chromatographic material. Richard was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the Navy where he earned the National Defense Service Medal.
Richard was a long-time member at Christ the King Parish, Gilpin Township, PA, and a member of Ascension Catholic Church, Melbourne, Florida. He enjoyed boating and had a camp at Kiski Campground for many years. He also enjoyed traveling and spending time with family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marylee (Dodds) Burr; daughter, Shannon Darbaker (Dennis); and grandson, Richard Darbaker.
He is survived by daughters, Monica Tom (Daniel) of Orlando, FL, and Rachel Weaver (Chad) of Melbourne, FL; brothers, Ralph Burr of Roanoke, VA, and Ron Burr of Pittsburgh, PA; five grandsons, Dennis Darbaker, Bailey Darbaker, Nicholas Tom, Andrew Tom and Jacob Weaver.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Christ the King Parish, 125 Park Rd., Leechburg, with the Rev. Alan N. Polczynski as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Catherine Cemetery in Gilpin Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Hospice.
