Raymond P. Matuscin Obituary

Raymond P. Matuscin, 96, of Gilpin Township, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 21, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born August 10, 1929, in Leechburg, he was the son of the late Anthony S. and Antoinette (Budiac) Matuscin.

Ray proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, achieving the rank of Sergeant 1st Class. Following his service, he built a long and dedicated career as a slitter operator at Allegheny Ludlum Steel in West Leechburg, where he worked for 41 years before retiring in 1991.

A man of strong faith, Ray was a lifelong member of Christ the King Parish in Gilpin Township, where he served as an usher and Eucharistic Minister. He was also active in the community through his involvement with the Leechburg Marconi Club, Food Bank, Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 775, Slovak Club, and as a charter member of the Gilpin Township Municipal Authority.

Ray was happiest when surrounded by family. He enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife, Frances, hunting and fishing, working through crossword puzzles with a sharp mind, and always lending a hand to those in need. His greatest joy, however, came from the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who adored their Pap Ray and will forever cherish his love, laughter, and guidance.

Ray is survived by his best friend and devoted wife of 73 years, Frances M. (Borello) Matuscin; his sons David (Betty J.) Matuscin of Gilpin Township, and Dennis (Brenda) Matuscin of Allegheny Township; his seven grandchildren, Jason, Jeremy, Amber, Kristin, Zachary, Carah, and Benita; and his twelve great-grandchildren, Dane, Ava, Braiden, Logan, Austin, Carson, Brianna, Evie, Liza, Luke, Adah, and Tyler; and many nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his five brothers, Anthony, Frank, Manuel, Gus, and Rudolph Matuscin; his sisters, Valeria Kulick and Vinca Urik.

Friends will be welcomed by his family on Thursday, September 25, 2025, from 5-8 p.m. at the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main St., Leechburg, 724-842-1051. Parting Prayers of Transfer will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, September 26, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Parish, 125 Park Road, Gilpin Township, with the Rev. Alan N. Polczynski officiating. Interment will follow at St. Catherine Cemetery Chapel with military honors conducted by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard.

Ray’s legacy lives on through the family he loved and the community he served.
