Melvin E. Walker

Melvin E. Walker, 84, of Gilpin Township, PA, loving husband and father, passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital in Kittanning.

A son of the late Frank Walker and Florence (Stitt) Walker, he was born August 1, 1937, in Manor Township, Armstrong County, PA.

Melvin graduated from Ford City High School in 1955 and then served in the U.S. Navy until graduating from M.I.T. in 1962. He worked for ALCOA for several years before starting Gilpin Engineering in 1973 and then starting Pittsburgh Anodizing Company in 1990 with a longtime friend.

He was a member of The Gideons International for over 40 years participating in numerous bible distributions including trips to India and Nigeria. 

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Karol D. (Magness) Walker; six children, Sherry Walker of Leechburg, Scott Walker (Kelly) of Apollo, Craig Walker (Heidi) of Vandergrift, David Walker of Apollo, Eric Walker (Jennifer) of Mechanicsburg, Gary Walker of Rockville, MD; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Virginia Dawson of Ford City, Phyllis Swank of Ontario, CA, Garnet Ludwick (Tom) of Kittanning, and Roger Walker (Gloria) of Freeport.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Walker; sister-in-law, Louise Walker, and two brothers-in-law, Albert Dawson and Don Swank.

Friends will be welcomed by his family on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022 from 4-6 p.m. at the Kiski Valley Community Church, 219 Market Street, Leechburg.  Funeral ceremonies will be held privately for the family with Rev. Todd R. Pugh officiating.  Military rites will be conducted by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard.  Private interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery in Apollo.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Gideons International for scriptures in honor of Melvin.  The Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main Street, Leechburg (724-842-1051) has been entrusted with arrangements.
