Matthew Samuel Caracciolo, 94, of Gilpin Township, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

He was born September 11, 1929 in Old Forge, PA, and raised in Bloomfield, to the late Matteo and Mary (Alviani) Caracciolo.

Matthew was a 1949 graduate of Schenley High School and a veteran of the Korean War where he was stationed in Germany as a cook.  After his military service, he married his late wife, Shirley Jean Reese and raised four children.  He was employed as a craneman by U.S. Steel in Homestead for over 30 years until retiring in 1980.  He will be remembered most for the love of his family, gardening, cooking, baking, and sewing, as well as a great sense of humor.

Survivors include his daughters, Lisa McCoy of Gilpin Township, Linda Williams of Iowa; son, Matthew Caracciolo (Bridget) of Iowa; granddaughters, Jamie Overholt (Nelson) of Iowa, Tara Ronian (Jake) of Gilpin Township; grandson, Juan Caracciolo of Iowa; great-grandson, Caleb Weston of Iowa; brothers, Lewis (Anna May), Vincent, Alfred (Ruth), Anthony (Philomena) Caracciolo; two very dear friends, Myrna of Iowa, Roxann Fox of McKeesport; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Allen James Caracciolo; a brother, Larry; sisters, Sara Webb, Josephine Wagner, Amelia White; sons-in-law, Ken McCoy and Steve Williams.  Oh, how we loved you!

There will be no public visitation.  The Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main St., Leechburg, 724-842-1051 is handling private arrangements with interment to be held at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies at the convenience of the family.
