Mary Gene (Knepshield) Shaner, 89, formerly of Gilpin Township, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights.

A daughter of the late Eugene Knepshield and Mary (Lemon) Knepshield, she was born March 9, 1934 in Gilpin Township, PA.

Mary was a homemaker and Den Mother for the Gilpin Township Cub Scouts for over 20 years.  She was a very active member of the Hebron Evangelical Lutheran Church in Leechburg where she loved teaching Bible school.  Mary enjoyed western square dancing, creating ceramics, traveling and especially family vacations.

Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Paul S. Shaner, formerly of Gilpin Township; her son, Jeffrey P. Shaner of West Leechburg; a brother, Duane Knepshield (Sandy) of Gilpin Township; and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Lewis.

Family and friends are invited to her memorial service to be held on Friday, August 18, 2023, beginning at 11 a.m. at Hebron Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 Main Street, Leechburg, with Rev. James V. Arter III officiating.  Interment will be private.
