Martin A. Lege Obituary

Martin A. Lege, 97, of West Leechburg, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2023, in his residence.


A son of the late Joseph Lege and Elena (DeMarie) Lege, he was born September 20, 1925 in Leechburg, PA.


As part of the "Greatest Generation," Martin was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the European Theater, where he earned three bronze stars as a combat infantryman during World War II.  He had been employed as a dispatcher by Allegheny Ludlum Steel in West Leechburg for over 40 years before retiring in 1989.  He was a member of Christ the King Parish in Gilpin Township, the VFW and the Leechburg Marconi Club.  At one time, he was also an auditor for West Leechburg Borough.  Martin served as an usher at the former St. Catherine Church and was active in the Holy Name Society.


Martin was a truly good husband, father and grandfather who loved vacationing every year with his family to the Toronto, Canada area.  He enjoyed playing softball in his younger years.  He was an avid Pirates, Steelers and Pitt sports fan.


Survivors include his son, Daniel Lege (Paulette) of West Leechburg; a daughter, Michele Pasko (Don) of West Leechburg; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Catherine Trawinski of Allegheny Township; and numerous nieces and nephews.


In addition to his parents, he was recently preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Clara (Venderlic) Lege in February; a daughter, Carol Ann Lege; and brothers, Mike and John Lege.


A private visitation and blessing service will be held for his family at the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main St., Leechburg, 724-842-1051, with the Rev. James H. Loew, O.S.B. officiating.  Private interment will follow at St. Catherine Cemetery in Gilpin Township.
