Kathleen “Kathy” Seren, 74, of Cabot, formerly of Allegheny Township, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025, at Concordia in Cabot. 

A daughter of the late John A. and Elizabeth H. (Kish) Kummick, she was born March 2, 1950, in New Kensington, PA. 

Kathy had been employed as an elementary teacher by the Leechburg Area School District for 34 years before retiring in 2006.  She was a member of St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in West Leechburg.  She was an excellent home decorator who enjoyed hosting family gatherings, reading, cooking, and assembling jigsaw puzzles. She also found great pleasure in debating politics and current events and was widely known for her heartfelt generosity. 

Survivors include her son, Matthew D. Seren (Allison Wright Seren) of Potomac, MD; grandchildren, Toby and Lyla Seren who were the light of her life; a brother, Donald Kummick (Jane Paino, MD) of Venice, FL; sisters, Vivian Cribbs (Richard) of Cabot, Linda Warcholak (Michael) of West Leechburg, Patricia Kummick (Jeff Fait) of Greensburg; nieces and nephews, David Cribbs of Ford Cliff, Amy Bruner (Troy) of Ford City, Jonathan Kummick (Alyssa) of Pendelton, IN, Dr. Janelle Kummick and Joseph Kummick of Indianapolis, IN, Zoe Kummick of Venice, FL, Anthony Petraglia of Chicago, IL; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David E. Seren in 2006; her sister, Denise M. Kummick; and sister-in-law, Clarine (Russell) Kummick.  

Friends and family are welcome to attend her Funeral Liturgy on Monday, February 24, 2025, beginning at 10 a.m. at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Main St., West Leechburg, with the Rev. John D. Gribik as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Catherine Cemetery in Gilpin Township.
