Joseph C. Suatoni, 87, of Allegheny Township, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Concordia, Cabot.
A son of the late Dominick P. Suatoni and Josephine M. (Rapp) Suatoni, he was born October 12, 1935 in Pittsburgh, PA.
Joseph was a 1953 graduate of Arnold High School and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from St. Vincent College, as well as attending the University of Pittsburgh. He had been employed as a Director of Analytical Services for 28 years with Gulf Oil in Harmarville, and for 15 years with Allegheny Ludlum Steel in Brackenridge before retiring in 2000. He introduced methods for using liquid chromatography to the steel industry – making the laboratory at Allegheny Ludlum state-of-the-art. In the late 1960s, Proctor & Gamble purchased his patent from Gulf Oil making their soaps biodegradable.
He was a member of Evangel Heights Church in Sarver and the American Chemical Society. Joseph enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, being best known as “Poppy.” He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, and watching all types of sporting events.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Dorothy L. (Smail) Suatoni of Allegheny Township; a daughter, Leanne J. Fenoglietto (Robert J.) of Lower Burrell; three grandchildren, Robert Jr., Morgan and Colton Fenoglietto.
Friends will be welcomed by his family on Monday, April 24, 2023 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main St., Leechburg, 724-842-1051, where funeral ceremonies will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 25, with the Pastor John P. Kuert officiating. Interment will follow at Forks Church Cemetery in Gilpin Township.
