Joseph Cader, 72, of Parks Township, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville.
Born on January 3, 1950 in Natrona Heights, He was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Safranyos) Cader.
Joe was employed by Allegheny Ludlum Steel in Vandergrift as a punch press operator for 30 years before retiring in 2002. He served in the U.S. Army for three years – a year of which was served in Vietnam. He was a member of Christ The King Parish in Gilpin Township and former member of the Church of the Assumption where he enjoyed volunteering at the annual church bazaars. After his retirement, he also helped maintain St. Catherine Cemetery in Gilpin Township.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #114 and VFW Post #566 in Vandergrift. Joe served as an American Legion Honor Guard for nine years. He was also a member of the Sokol Club and Elks Lodge #377 in Leechburg. Joe was a JV basketball coach, along with his brother Dave, at the Leechburg CYO Center. His hobbies included hunting and gambling. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins, Pirates, as well as the Pitt and Penn State football games and NCAA basketball.
Survivors include his sister-in-law, Dolores (Becker) Cader of Leechburg; an aunt, Tess Cader of Hyde Park; and several cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, David and Stephen; and a sister, Suzanne.
Friends will be welcomed by his family on Friday, July 29, 2022 from 5-8 p.m. at the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main St., Leechburg, 724-842-1051. On Saturday, July 30, everyone is asked to meet at Christ The King Parish, 125 Park Road in Gilpin Township, for Parting Prayers of Transfer held at 10:30 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James H. Loew, O.S.B. as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Catherine Cemetery in Gilpin Township with military honors conducted by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard.
