James M. Peterman, 77, of Leechburg, passed away Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights.

The only child of the late Harold E. Peterman and Stella K. (Kroll) Peterman, he was born March 7, 1948.

For over 45 years, James had been employed as a teacher, principal, and religious formation director by the Diocese of Greensburg serving several churches in the valley, including St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church in Vandergrift and Christ the King Parish in Leechburg (where he was an active member).  He was passionate about mentoring the youth of the community and helped many people in their journey of faith.

James served as a member of Leechburg Borough Council for a number of years.  He loved anything to do with railroads, including visiting tourist railroads, traveling by Amtrak, and building model train layouts. He was a Pennsylvania history enthusiast.  James most enjoyed gatherings with family and friends, especially for Christmas (his favorite holiday). Above all, he was a man of lifelong service to his God, his church, his family, and his community.

He is survived by numerous cousins.
