James R. McGee, 73, of Leechburg, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2021 at Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights.
A son of the late LaRue M. McGee and Florence (Ashbaugh) McGee, he was born February 16, 1948, in New Kensington.
James was a 1966 graduate of Leechburg High School and later attended Penn State in New Kensington. He had been employed as a Senior Technician in the Resins Research Center at the Springdale Plant of PPG Industries for 41 years before retiring in 2011. While working at PPG, he served as a credit union officer. James was a member of Christ The King Parish in Gilpin Township, the Leechburg-Gilpin Lions Club and Leechburg Borough Council (for two terms). He enjoyed a hobby of classic cars and working on them. James most treasured being with his family, especially his grandchildren, of whom he was very proud.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Marylee (Ropelewski) McGee of Leechburg; two sons, Kevin J. McGee (Marnie) of West Leechburg, Brian M. McGee (Leslie) of Sewickley; a daughter Kristine Schaeffer (Shawn) of New Kensington; five grandchildren, Jonathan Schaeffer, Erica Schaeffer, Randee McGee, Finn McGee, Everly McGee; three sisters, Patricia Fouse (Russell) of Gilpin Township, Laurie Duff (Ronald) of Allegheny Township, Deborah McGee of Gilpin Township; and a sister-in-law, Cynthia McGee of Gilpin Township.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Walter E. McGee.
Friends will be welcomed by his family on Tuesday, August 17, from 10-11 a.m. at Christ The King Parish, 125 Park Road, Gilpin Township, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Michael J. Sciberras as celebrant. Interment following at St. Catherine Cemetery in Gilpin Township.
