Howard M. Newell, 90, of Cheswick, PA (formerly of Leechburg), passed away on Monday, August 28, 2023, at Concordia at Fox Chapel.
He was born December 6, 1932, in North Braddock, to the late James M. and Wanda (Wyant) Newell.
Howard served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was an electronics specialist with 44 years of service with Westinghouse (later named Powerex) of Youngwood. He was a member of Puckety Presbyterian Church, Lower Burrell, where he participated as a deacon and church elder. He also spent many years serving on the church up-keep committee. Howard loved square dancing, playing the piano, singing and bowling. Additionally, he enjoyed traveling and seeing new places with his wife Jane.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Jane (Kachonik) Newell; two daughters, Linda (Newell) Brown and her husband John, and Deborah (Newell) Balbo and her husband Richard; three grandchildren, Melissa (Brown) Sisco and her husband Rider, Bridget (Brown) Holmes and her husband AJ, and Shannon Brown; three great-grandchildren, Wyatt Holmes, Emmett Holmes, and a baby on the way.
In additon to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, James and Letitia (Thom) Newell.
His family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Concordia of Fox Chapel for their compassionate care of Howard.
As per Howard’s wishes, visitation and funeral ceremonies are private and have been entrusted to the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main St., Leechburg, 724-842-1051. Interment will be held at Greenwood Memorial Park in Lower Burrell with full military honors provided by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard.
