Harry F. Johns Jr., 89, of Allegheny Township, PA, passed away on Monday, October 25, 2021 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
A son of the late Harry Johns and Jenny (Gawlik) Johns, he was born on November 25, 1931, in New Kensington.
Harry attended the New Kensington Vocational School and then graduated from Ken High in 1950. He continued to be a lifelong resident of the area. Harry retired from Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp. after working in plant protection for 42 years. He attended Hebron Evangelical Lutheran Church in Leechburg.
Harry was a member of the New Kensington Tyrian Lodge No. 644 F.&A.M., the Tarentum Sportsmen’s Club, and a life member of the NRA. As an avid marksman, competition shooting was his passion. He mentored several aspiring marksmen. His proudest accomplishments were receiving the Director of Civilian Marksmanship Award and the Distinguished Pistol Award, both conducted by the U.S. Army.
Survivors include two nieces and a nephew.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Suzanne (Fryer) Johns in 2017; his brother, Carl Johns; and sister, Eva May (Johns) Kilgore.
Friends will be welcomed by his family on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2021 from 1-3 p.m. at the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main Street, Leechburg (724-842-1051) where a Masonic service will be held at 3 p.m. immediately followed by funeral ceremonies with Pastor Ryan Pusch officiating.
