Edward P. Fitzgerald, 84, of Washington Township, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at Good Samaritan Inpatient Hospice House in Wexford.
A son of the late Andrew J. Fitzgerald and Elizabeth A. (O’Brien) Fitzgerald, he was born July 3, 1937.
Ed had been employed as a science teacher at Leechburg Area High School for over 30 years before retiring in 1992. His lifelong passion for football served him well in winning several championships as a long-time football coach for the Leechburg team. He was a very active member of Cross Roads Community Presbyterian Church in Leechburg. Ed enjoyed gardening, golfing, cooking and spending time in nature and with his grandsons.
Survivors include his daughter, Laurie K. Clemens (Roy) of Moon Township; two grandsons, Ryan Fitzgerald Clemens and Nicholas James Clemens; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Ruth E. (Hall) Fitzgerald; and his brother- and sister-in-law, Gene and Maxine Hall.
Private family visitation was held at Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main St., Leechburg, 724-842-1051. Entombment was held at Greenwood Memorial Park Mausoleum in Lower Burrell. Family and friends are invited to attend his memorial service on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Cross Roads Community Presbyterian Church, 271 Main St., Leechburg, with Rev. Gary J. Lyon officiating.
