Earl Clarence Smail

Earl Clarence Smail, 93, of Allegheny Township, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

A son of the late Albert Smail and Helen (Rose) Smail, he was born July 5, 1933, in Leechburg, PA.

Earl was a 1952 graduate of Leechburg High School.  He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman. Throughout his career, Earl had been employed as a lab technician by Allegheny Ludlum Steel (Bagdad), Hyde Park Foundry and NUMEC.  He was also a self-employed auctioneer.  Earl was an avid hunter, fisherman, bowler, golfer and all Pittsburgh sports fan.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Velma (Santus) Smail of Allegheny Township; four children, Anthony “Tony” Smail (Eleanor), Andrea Gaines (Kendall “Keith”), Eric Smail, Paula Moore (John); six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by all his siblings, Alberta “Shorty” McElroy, Mildred Hoch, Robert “Bob” Smail, and James “Jim” Smail.

Friends will be welcomed by his family on Saturday, July 18, from 9-11 a.m. at the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main St., Leechburg, 724-842-1051, followed by funeral ceremonies beginning at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James V. Arter III officiating.  Interment will be held at Greenwood Memorial Park in Lower Burrell.
