Douglas P. Shaffer, 67, of Allegheny Township, PA, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh.
A son of the late Donald P. Shaffer and Audrey Marilyn (Ward) Shaffer, he was born January 18, 1954, in Havelock, North Carolina.
Doug was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He had been employed as a crane operator with Allegheny Ludlum Steel at the Bagdad plant for over 35 years before retiring in 2016. He was a member of the Orchard Hills Pentecostal Church in Spring Church. Doug enjoyed hunting, bowling, motorcycling and especially spending time with his grandkids and nieces and nephews.
Survivors include his two daughters, Alessa Fleske (William) of Cheswick, Audrey Wirl (David) of West Leechburg; two grandchildren, Otto and Elle Fleske of Cheswick; his mother-in-law, Dorothy (Burkett) Reid of Apollo; two brothers, Gregory J. Shaffer (Theresa) of Allegheny Township and Mark E. Shaffer (Cathy) of Butler; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Linda M. (Reid) Shaffer, sadly just six days before him on May 19th.
Friends will be welcomed by his family on Friday, May 28, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main Street, Leechburg (724-842-1051) where funeral ceremonies will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 29, with Rev. Todd Pugh officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will be private at Greenwood Cemetery in Lower Burrell. All visitors are asked to respectfully follow current state guidelines of required masks/face coverings, social distancing and gathering restrictions of 50% capacity.
