Dorothy I. (Smarick) Kuruc

Dorothy I. (Smarick) Kuruc, 85, of Allegheny Township, passed away on February 5, 2021 at Quality Life Services / Three Rivers Hospice in Apollo, PA.

A daughter of the late Steve Smarick and Mary (Lascek) Smarick, she was born June 8, 1935, in Natrona, PA.

Dorothy graduated from HarBrack High School in 1953 and Allegheny Valley Hospital School of Nursing in 1956. She worked as an RN at Allegheny Valley Hospital and PPG Industries.

She was married to the late David A. Kuruc for 59 ½ years before his death on December 31, 2019.

Dorothy was a member of the Saint Margaret Mary Parish in Lower Burrell.

She enjoyed dancing, cleaning, baking, tennis, planning her class reunions, hosting Princess House Crystal parties, spending time with her family, and always remembering special occasions of family and friends with cards and gifts. Dorothy found goodness in every person and joy in sharing her love of angels with her friends and family. Her prayer list included everyone she knew. She could always be seen dressed as a stylish “young at heart” fashion plate.

Survivors include three sons, David (Linda) Kuruc II of Leechburg, Randy (Deanne) Kuruc of Lower Burrell, Patrick “P.J.” Kuruc of Westerville, OH; six grandchildren, Melissa Nelson, Leyla (Tom) Zickau, Justin (Raelyn) Kuruc, Jason (Jena) Kuruc, Jillian Kuruc, Aaron Kuruc; five great-grandchildren, Julius Kuruc, Landon Kuruc, Scarlett Kuruc, Frankie Zickau, Anastasia Zickau; two brothers, Stephen (Joyce) Smarick of Natrona Heights, Richard (Jane) Smarick of Annapolis, MD; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Smarick.

Visitation will be private. Friends will be welcomed by her family on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at St. Margaret Mary Church (3055 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell) for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Kenneth Zaccagnini celebrating. Interment will be held at Greenwood Memorial Park. The Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, Inc., 170 Main Street, Leechburg (724-842-1051), has been entrusted with arrangements.  Donations in her name may be made to St. Margaret Mary Church in Lower Burrell.
