Donald J. Snyder

Donald J. Snyder, 86, of Leechburg, PA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights.

A son of the late Jay Snyder and Lucretia “Lou” (Duganier) Snyder, he was born February 10, 1935 in Punxsutawney, PA.

Don was a 1953 graduate of Leechburg Area High School. He was a member of Christ the King Parish in Gilpin Township. Don was very active in his community. He was a member of the Leechburg Elks Lodge #377, the Leechburg Marconi Club, a men’s bowling league at the former Lee’s Lanes, and volunteered at the Leechburg Recycling Center for over 20 years. He also served as the former treasurer of the Allegheny Metal Federal Credit Union. Don was a U.S. Army veteran. He was employed by Allegheny Ludlum Steel, working at the Leechburg office and Bagdad plant for 40 years, retiring in 1995. Don enjoyed playing cards, playing beanbags and corn hole, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, David Snyder (Cesare Arici) of Newtown Square, PA; a daughter, Gretchen Ferretti (Dan) of Commerce Township, MI; two grandchildren, Matthew and Megan Ferretti; two brothers, Terry Snyder of Leechburg, Keith Snyder (Linda) of Leechburg; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, with whom he was close.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Kathleen (Ford) Snyder in 2018; an infant daughter, Mary Lynn Snyder in 1966; and a brother, Charles Snyder.

Friends will be welcomed by his family on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021 from 12:30–1:30 p.m. at Christ The King Parish, 125 Park Road, Gilpin Township. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. James H. Loew, O.S.B. as celebrant. Military rites will be conducted by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard.  Private interment will be held at Our Lady of Hope Cemetery in Tarentum.

The Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main Street, Leechburg (724-842-1051) has been entrusted with arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Don’s name may be made to the Leechburg Borough Shade Tree Commission, c/o 260 Market St., Leechburg, PA 15656; or to the Lower Kiski Ambulance Service, 80 Kiski Ave., Leechburg, PA 15656.
