Donald H. Nickels, 83, of Allegheny Township, PA, passed away on Friday, October 8, 2021 in his residence.
A son of the late Byron Clarence Nickels and Charlotte (Fulcomer) Nickels, he was born August 30, 1938, in New Kensington.
Donald had been employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Freeport for over 40 years before retiring in 2000. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. During his 64 years with the Allegheny Township Volunteer Fire Department, he held various positions including that of Fire Chief. He was of the Presbyterian faith and a member of the Red Knights. Donald enjoyed volunteering, working around his home, riding his motorcycle and most of all spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of eight years, Beverly A. (Hassler) Nickels of Allegheny Township; two sons, Michael S. Nickels of Allegheny Township, Mark A. Nickels (Virginia) of Sarver; stepchildren, Charles E. Balog of Pittsburgh, Robin Marie Perfetta (Mark) of Avonmore, Bradely R. Balog of Leechburg; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends will be welcomed by his family on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main Street, Leechburg (724-842-1051) with the Allegheny Township Volunteer Fire Dept. Company #1 conducting a service at 7 p.m. Funeral ceremonies will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13, at the funeral home, with Rev. Gary J. Lyon officiating. Interment following at Greenwood Memorial Park, 104 Melwood Rd., Lower Burrell.
