Donald L. Erb

Donald L. Erb, 73, of Leechburg, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024, in his residence.

A son of the late Paul William Erb and Florence Marie (Cooper) Erb, he was born August 30, 1950 in Harrison, PA.

Don was a 1969 graduate of Freeport High School where he later served as a football manager.  Don had been employed as a security guard for International Nickel in Ellwood City before retiring.  Most recently, he worked as an outdoor maintenance employee for the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center in Leechburg.  He was a member of Christ The King Church in Gilpin Township.

For over 50 years, he was a fireman and also served as a fireman’s police captain with the Buffalo Township, Freeport, and Allegheny Township Fire Depts.  He passed down his love of firefighting to his family. Don loved his wives and all his family and was always willing to lend a helping hand.  He enjoyed watching TV shows, giving advice, and camping at Slippery Rock Campground.

Survivors include his sons, Paul J. Erb and Christopher J. Erb, both of Allegheny Township; a sister, Helen Marie Erb of Baltimore, MD; a special nephew, James W. Erb Jr. (Alma) of Natrona Heights; a great niece, Catherine; a great nephew, Jacob; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth A. (Conrad) Erb in 2018, and second wife, Michele Ann (Altman) Erb in 2023; a sister, Carol Ann Derkowski; brothers, James W. Erb Sr., Daniel P. Erb, and a twin brother in infancy.

At Don’s request, there will be no public visitation.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024, at Christ The King Church, 125 Park Road, in Gilpin Township with the Rev. Alan N. Polczynski as celebrant.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main St., Leechburg, 724-842-1051.  Private interment will follow at McVille Cemetery in Cadogan.
