Clair E. Byers Obituary

Clair E. Byers, 91, of Gilpin Township, PA, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital in Kittanning.


A son of the late Charles M. Byers and Thelma (Riffer) Byers, he was born on April 18, 1934, in Parks Township, Armstrong County, PA.


Clair had been employed as a tractor trailer driver by Bremans Transfer of Leechburg for over 30 years before retiring in 1995. He was a 1952 graduate of Vandergrift High School and of the Lutheran faith. Clair enjoyed fishing and hunting.


Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Lois A. (Lessig) Byers of Gilpin Township; a son, Brian C. Byers of Kiski Township; two grandchildren, Justin Rishel (Lori), Angela Geltz (Matt); three great-grandsons; two nieces, Sandy Duckworth, Connie Rebyanski (Sal); three step children (all of Gilpin Township), Dean A. Vakulick, Terri L. Smith, David G. Vakulick (Bonnie); three step grandchildren, Benjamin L. Smith, Brian R. Smith, Tessa M. Vakulick; four step great-grandchildren.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two daughters, Candice Hayes, Bonita Peters; and two brothers, Clayton M. Byers (Mary), Ira L. Byers.


Family and friends are welcome to attend his memorial service to be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main St., Leechburg, 724-842-1051, with the Rev. James V. Arter III officiating. Private interment will be made at Forks Church Cemetery in Gilpin Township. 


In lieu of flowers, his family suggests donations in his name may be made to Forks Zion Lutheran Church, 253 Forks Church Rd., Leechburg, PA 15656; or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
