Carol Louise (Shoemaker) Weimer Obituary

Carol Louise (Shoemaker) Weimer, 77, of Leechburg, PA, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024. She was the cherished wife of the late Benton Groves Weimer, beloved mother of Christie (Champion) Benton (Eric), stepmother of Bonnie McIntosh (Matt), Laurie Weimer (Kerry), grandma of Malcolm McIntosh and Sean McIntosh, and sister-in-law of Violet Groff. Her furry companion, Cuddles, was by her side until the very end. She was also sister to the late Richard Shoemaker.

Carol leaves a legacy of joyful devotion to others, always going out of her way to offer a ride, provide a homemade meal, or share a visit or phone call. Her personalized greeting cards delighted recipients during times of celebration and sorrow.

A daughter of the late Edith (Stegner) and Richard Shoemaker, Carol was born on June 25, 1947. She was raised in Leechburg, PA and graduated from Leechburg Area High School (’65) where she was a member of the National Honor Society. Carol loved numbers and was a math whiz. She spent summers at the family lake house in Edinboro, PA where she was an avid swimmer, bowler, water skier, and tennis player. She began her professional career at Westinghouse and moved on to Prudential Insurance Company where she worked for nearly 40 years in both Lower Burrell, PA and Linwood, NJ.

Carol was a member of Calvary United Presbyterian Church in Leechburg, the First United Methodist Church of Cape May Court House, and, finally, the First United Methodist Church of Leechburg. Her church was central to her life where she enjoyed various ministries within her church, including clowning. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Kittanning Chapter #277.  Carol quietly supported Ben’s work with the Cape May County Vietnam Veterans Association, helping to coordinate its annual scholarship program. Carol loved traveling the world with Ben, entertaining their friends and family, and serving others.

Friends will be welcomed by her family on Thursday, July 25, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main St., Leechburg, 724-842-1051, with an Order of the Eastern Star service beginning at 7 p.m.  Funeral ceremonies will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 26, at the First United Methodist Church, 251 Main Street, Leechburg, with Saundra McKee officiating.  Interment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park in Lower Burrell. Contributions in Carol’s memory can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Leechburg’s Crock Pot Ministry.
