Bernice (Smith) Kolenik, 94, of West Leechburg, PA, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2024 at Concordia of Monroeville.
A daughter of the late John Lewis Smith and Elizabeth (Atherton) Smith, she was born on December 16, 1929, in Freeport, PA.
Bernice was a homemaker who also worked for Clines Foodland in Leechburg as a deli clerk for many years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Leechburg where she participated in the church’s Bible Study group. Bernice enjoyed cooking, baking and above all spending time with her family.
Survivors include her sons, John J. Kolenik (Vicki) of Bangor, Maine, Kenneth R. Kolenik (Karen) of New Kensington; four grandchildren, Rebecca, Daniel, Shannon, Lauren; two great-granddaughters, Abigail and Natalie; sisters, Dee Coleman of Gilpin Township and Beverly Smith of Apollo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph R. Kolenik; and several sisters.
Friends will be welcomed by her family on Thursday, October 3, 2024 from 5-7 p.m. at the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main St., Leechburg, 724-842-1051. Funeral ceremonies will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 4, at the funeral home with Pastor Sara Wrona officiating. Private interment will follow at St. Catherine Cemetery in Gilpin Township.
