Barbara A. (Artman) Shaner

Barbara A. (Artman) Shaner, 87, of Leechburg, passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Quality Life Services, Apollo.

She was born March 6, 1936, in Leechburg, to the late Dwight Vernie Artman and Bertha Jane (Glass) Artman.

Barbara was a retired nurse’s aide with 27 years of service having worked for Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights.  She was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Leechburg.  She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She enjoyed being with her friends, including going on cruises, traveling, and sometimes just going to dinner.  Barbara was a fan of and spent many days at the Leechburg Area Pool.

Survivors include a daughter, Pamela Sprankle (Scott Jack) of Apollo; a daughter-in-law, Karen Shaner of North Pole, Alaska; five grandchildren, Lee, Steven, Justin, Emily, Wesley; twelve great-grandchildren, Kyla, Kendall, Troy, William, Emma, Wyatt A., Wyatt L., Carson, Harlow, Ozzie, Ayla, Cameron; a sister-in-law, Jean Johns; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Orbin D. Shaner Jr. in 1986; a son, Barry L. Shaner; four sisters, Virginia Crofutt, Kathleen Chonko, Louise "Vernie" Bell, Alberta Berger; three sisters-in-law, Marian Robbins, Doris Johns, and Hazel Spang.

Friends will be welcomed by her family on Sunday, September 3, 2023 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 3-5 p.m. at the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main St., Leechburg, 724-842-1051, where a funeral service will be held at 5 p.m.  Private interment will be held at Brick Church Lutheran Cemetery in Ford City.  Donations in memory of Barbara may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
