Anthony J. “Tony” Defilippi, 79, of Lighthouse Point in O’Hara Township, formerly of Leechburg, PA, passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2021 in his residence.
A son of the late Martin J. Defilippi and Margaret (Giovannini) Defilippi, he was born October 12, 1941, in New Kensington.
Tony was a veteran having honorably served as a Captain in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam War. He was employed as a teacher in the New Kensington-Arnold Schools District for two years prior to teaching Chemistry for 35 years in the Leechburg Area School District and retiring in 2001. He was an active member of the Leechburg community being a member of Christ The King Parish in Gilpin Township and many organizations in the Leechburg area, including the Knights of Columbus Council #6715, the Leechburg Volunteer Fire Company, the B.P.O.E. Lodge #377, the Marconi Club, and the former American Legion Post. Tony enjoyed repairing old cars and rooting for all Pittsburgh sports teams, especially the Penguins and Steelers.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Carol J. (Smail) Defilippi of O’Hara Township; a son, John A. Defilippi (Stacy) of Stephens City, VA; a daughter, Kathryn A. Defilippi of Natrona Heights; and a sister-in-law, Bernice Defilippi of Washington, DC.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Peter “Pete” Defilippi.
Friends will be welcomed by his family on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Christ The King Parish, 125 Park Road, Gilpin Township. Additional visitation will be held on Thursday, May 20, from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the church followed immediately by Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. James H. Loew, O.S.B. as celebrant. Private interment will be held at St. Catherine Cemetery in Gilpin Township. All visitors are asked to respectfully follow current state guidelines of required masks/face coverings, social distancing and gathering restrictions.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Tony may be made to the Allegheny Health Care at Home Hospice, 500 Commonwealth Drive, Warrendale, PA 15086. The Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main Street, Leechburg (724-842-1051) has been entrusted with arrangements.
