Albert J. Csonka, 94, of Gilpin Township, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at Kane-Scott Nursing Home in Scott Township.
A son of the late Joseph A. Csonka and Elizabeth (Dobos) Csonka, he was born February 19, 1929 in Gilpin Township, PA.
Albert was a 1947 graduate of Leechburg High School. He served overseas as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. For 44 years, he was employed as a cold mill rolling steelworker by Allegheny Ludlum Steel in West Leechburg. Albert was a member of the former Assumption Roman Catholic Church and currently Christ the King Parish in Gilpin Township, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was also a member of the Knight of Columbus Council 6715 of Leechburg and the Parks Township Sportsman’s Club. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and hunting.
Survivors include his children, J. Suzanne Goff of New Kensington, Gary A. Csonka (Cindy) of East Vandergrift, Gregory S. Csonka (Cindy) of Apollo, Christopher J. Csonka (Ann Marie) of O’Hara Township, Kathleen J. Csonka-McElfresh (Kensie) of Tarentum; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Carol Rauch of Knoxville, TN, Ethel Melvin of Midland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet E. (Tippett) Csonka in 2008; brothers, William, Paul, Joseph and Frank Csonka; sisters, Theresa Morey and Elizabeth George.
Friends will be welcomed by his family on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main St., Leechburg, 724-842-1051. Parting Prayers of Transfer will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. in Christ the King Parish, 125 Park Rd., Gilpin Township, followed by Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m., with the Rev. John Euker as celebrant. Private interment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park in Lower Burrell.
