Vernon James Carnahan, 87, of Leechburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights.
A son of the late James Bryan Carnahan and Isabelle (Wilson) Carnahan, he was born December 13, 1930 in Wilkinsburg, PA.
Vernon was employed by Bell Telephone in Wilkinsburg as a switch networking operator for 19 years before becoming owner of Coopers R.V. Sales in Murrysville for over 25 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served as a Corporal with the 205th Sig. Co. in Korea. Vernon received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal. He was of the Presbyterian faith. He enjoyed recreational boating, photography, traveling the world, spending Winters in Florida and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Shirley A. (Downes) Carnahan of Gilpin Twp., PA; his son, James D. Carnahan (Susan) of Las Vegas, NV; three grandchildren, Tristan Carnahan (Ashley), Deonna Jacobs (Cody) and Jeromy Perry; and five great-grandchildren.
There will be no public visitation. A memorial service and interment will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main Street, Leechburg (724-842-1051). Condolences to the Carnahan family may be offered at www.clawsonfuneralhome.com.
