Loretta Lee “Nanny” (Lombardi) Kolenik, 76, of Allegheny Twp. (Leechburg), PA, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2017.

Loretta was born on October 12, 1940 to Margaret (Matte) Lombardi and John Lombardi, both of Leechburg, PA. She was an only child and grew up across the street from her lifelong love, her husband, Steve Andrew Kolenik Jr.

They graduated from Leechburg High Class of 1958, and she graduated from Indiana University where she studied elementary education. She went on to earn her Master’s degree as well.

In 1963 her only son, Steven Andrew Kolenik III was born.  He became her sole focus and source of pride. She continued to teach elementary school in Leechburg and the surrounding district throughout her life and retired in 2000 after 35 years.

In 1994 Loretta became “Nanny.”  Her first grandchild, Kendall, was the baby girl she always dreamed of and she spent every free moment with her. Nanny shined as a grandmother.  It was her finest role as the doting, fun loving grandmother.  Soon her sister Addison followed Kendall in 1997.  Loretta had retired and moved part-time to Connecticut to be closer to her grandchildren.

In 2000, her family became complete with the addition of her grandson, Steven Andrew Kolenik IV, “Drew.”   She spent countless hours playing and teaching and loving each one of them. We could never thank her or Poppy enough for the love they shared with our children.

She was able to leave us according to her wishes, at home with her little dog, Baby, her dedicated home health aide, Joy, and was comfortable and grateful for the life she lived.  May we all be so fortunate.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the local Red Cross, as our country struggles to recover from these storms.

Friends welcomed by her family on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 from 4-8 PM at Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main Street, Leechburg (724-842-1051) where funeral ceremonies will be held at 9 AM on Thursday, Sept. 14, with the Reverend Gary Lyon officiating.  Entombment following at Greenwood Mausoleum.
