Joseph T. “Sonny” Mercurio, 81, of Natrona Heights, PA, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh.

A son of the late Paul and Charlotte (Russo) Mercurio, he was born August 26, 1936, in Natrona Heights, PA.

Sonny graduated from Tarentum High School in 1954.  He had worked for Thorofare Supermarket and Glassmere Fuel before retirement.  Sonny was a devoted husband, loving father and avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan.  He loved watching Turner Classic Movies with “The Godfather” being his favorite.  He was a member and past Exalted Ruler of the Tarentum Elks.

Survivors include his daughter, Rose Marie Hamilton (Thomas) of Leechburg, PA; and several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Sandi Kurn.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth L. (Eshelman) Mercurio on February 11, 2013; four sisters, Sara Demma, Rose Marie Triveri, Angie Huet, Mary Ann “Mitzi” Sawhook; three brothers, Michael Mercurio, Samuel Mercurio and Paul “Junior” Mercurio.

Friends welcomed by his family on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main Street, Leechburg (724-842-1051) where funeral ceremonies will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, Dec. 6, with the Reverend Jerrad R. Peterman officiating.  Interment following at Evergreen Cemetery in Gilpin Twp.
