George Lewis Klingensmith

George Lewis Klingensmith, 93, of Latrobe, PA, passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Latrobe Hospital.

A son of the late David Dewey Klingensmith and Olive Rose (Woodside) Klingensmith, he was born December 17, 1923, in Bethel Twp., Armstrong Co., PA.

George was a veteran of World War II having served as a Private First Class in the U.S. Air Force for which he received the Good Conduct Medal, Air Medal, American Theatre Service Medal, Victory Medal and Asia-Pacific Theatre Service Medal w/2 Bronze Stars.  For over 30 years, he had been employed as a security guard with Allegheny Ludlum West Leechburg works.  George was a member of Forks Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gilpin Twp. and a lifetime member of the Gilpin Twp. Volunteer Fire Dept.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his family.

Survivors include two sons, George Klingensmith Jr. of Vandergrift, PA, and Mark Todd Klingensmith of Blairsville, PA; two daughters, Cheryl Stankiewicz (James) of Belle Vernon, PA, and Rose Klingensmith of Loyalhanna, PA; eight grandchildren, Stephen, Brenda, Brett, Rochelle, Jimmy, Patrick, Jesse and Isabella; and nine great-grandchidren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Dorothy L. (Klingensmith) Klingensmith on December 21, 2016; and a son, Kenneth Klingensmith in 1967.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 21, 2017 at Forks Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 253 Forks Church Road, Gilpin Twp. with the Rev. Jocelyn Johnston officiating.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main Street, Leechburg (724-842-1051).
