Candace E. (Altman) Gard, 50, of Gilpin Twp., PA, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2018 in her residence.
A daughter of the late A.G. Paul Altman and Alene (Claypool) Altman, she was born June 24, 1967, in Natrona Heights, PA.
Candace graduated from Leechburg Area High School in 1985 after attending Lenape Technical School for cosmetology. For over 30 years as a cosmetologist, she was employed as an assistant manager with Holiday Hair in Hyde Park and was a co-owner of Changing Styles. She was a life-long member of Forks Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gilpin Twp. As a devoted mother to her children, Candace was active in the Leechburg Area Gridiron Club and Leechburg Volleyball Boosters. She enjoyed sunbathing on the beach, shopping, and going to the Leechburg Area Pool.
Survivors include her husband of 22 years, Benjamin A. Gard, and three children: Christa Langston, Jacob Gard, and Miranda Gard, all of Gilpin Twp., PA; a brother, Louis D. Altman (Nancy) of Gilpin Twp., PA; two sisters: Diane Riffer of Shelocta, PA, and Sandra Nemeth of Leechburg, PA; her mother-in-law, Eleanor H. Gard of Marwood, PA; brother-in-law, Richard Gard (Maxine) of Ashburn, VA; numerous nieces and nephews, several aunts, uncles, cousins, adored pets Sofie, Max and Sissy, and beloved grand-dogs Otis and Lola.
Friends welcomed by her family on Sunday, January 7, 2018 from 1-5 PM at Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main Street, Leechburg (724-842-1051) where funeral ceremonies will begin at 5 PM following visitation with the Reverend Don Scandrol officiating. Private interment will be made at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Candace may be made to Our Clubhouse (412-338-1919), a free program and support services for people fighting cancer and for cancer survivors as well, on 2816 Smallman Street in Pittsburgh, PA. Specify “United Way - #221008”
