Alfred Howard McLaughlin

Alfred Howard “Gouch” McLaughlin, 82, of Tarentum, PA, passed away on Monday, August 13, 2018 at Fair Winds Manor in Sarver.

A son of the late Raymond Howard McLaughlin and Emma (Fouse) McLaughlin, he was born January 4, 1936 in Hyde Park, PA.

Alfred was employed as a pickle line operator with U.S. Steel for 40 years before retiring in 1998.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and of the Lutheran faith.  Gouch coached Leechburg Little League Baseball for over 20 years as manager of the Cardinals.  He enjoyed hunting, traveling and was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Charlotte J. (Henry) McLaughlin of Tarentum, PA; seven sons: James McLaughlin (Tracy Stright-McCarthy) of Maryland, Alfred “Butch” McLaughlin of Leechburg, PA, Tim McLaughlin (Angela) of New Jersey, Doug McLaughlin of Leechburg, PA, Bob McLaughlin of Vandergrift, PA, Tom Mills of Pittsburgh, PA, and Doug Mills of Tarentum, PA; two daughters: Laura Lewis (Randy) of Leechburg, PA, and Lisa Mills of Greensburg, PA; and a sister, Mary Ann McLaughlin of Leechburg, PA; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth M. McLaughlin and Jeffrey A. McLaughlin; and brothers, Raymond, Wayne “Wink” and Kenneth “Buck” McLaughlin.

There will be no public visitation or ceremonies.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main Street, Leechburg (724-842-1051).  Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.  Charlotte and Laura want to thank everyone at Quality Life Services, Fair Winds Manor (Sarver) and Three Rivers Hospice for their kindness and great care of Alfred.
