Lillian Irene (Bernat) Kovalcik

Lillian Irene (Bernat) Kovalcik, 87, of Leechburg, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, February 13, 2021.

A daughter of the late Frank Bernat and Elizabeth (Grantz) Bernat, she was born June 19, 1933, in Hyde Park, PA.

Lillian was a homemaker and member of Christ The King Parish in Gilpin Township. She was an avid fan of sports, especially basketball and football.  Lillian also enjoyed reading and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Frank J. Kovalcik of Leechburg; three daughters, Deborah L. Lindner (Glenn) of Newark, OH, Cheryl A. McNichol (Joseph) of Winfield, PA, Kimberly J. Foust (John) of Freeport; five grandchildren, Adam Foust (Trisha), Anna Foust, Amanda McNichol, Alex Lindner, Olivia McNichol; two great-grandchildren, Adalee and Taylyn Foust; five brothers, Robert Bernat of Palm Springs, CA, Frank Bernat (Betty) of Covington, GA, James Bernat (Helen) of Apollo, Hubert Bernat of Anaheim, CA, William Bernat (Bonnie) of Casper, WY; four sisters, Emma DePanicis of Connellsville, Margaret “Peggy” Angelozzi (Tony) of Apollo, Benita Bodnar of Monroeville, and Paulette Whitaker (Gary) of Abilene, TX.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Charles Foust; and three sisters, Dorothy Sterlitz, Claudia Bernat, and Teresa Smith.

Friends will be welcomed by her family on Saturday, February 20, 2021, from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Christ The King Parish, 125 Park Road, Gilpin Township immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. James H. Loew, O.S.B. and Rev. Michael J. Sciberras as concelebrants. All visitors are asked to respectfully follow current state guidelines of required masks/face coverings, social distancing and gathering restrictions.

Private interment will be held at St. Catherine Cemetery in Gilpin Township.  The Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main Street, Leechburg (724-842-1051) has been entrusted with arrangements.
