Dennis Nigra Obituary

Dennis M. Nigra, 1952-2024, known for his exuberant spirit, quick wit, and boundless generosity, passed away unexpectedly on April 12, 2024, during a routine visit to West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His partner of 28 years, Christopher James Day, was by his side, offering comfort during his final moments.

Dennis was born in Hyde Park, Pennsylvania, on October 16, 1952, to parents Albert Nigra and Elizabeth Cline. A 1970 graduate of Kiski Area High School, he pursued higher education at Penn State University, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree. Dennis began his professional journey at Allegheny Ludlum, a Pittsburgh-based company and producer of specialty metals. His career there spanned many years, after which he pursued his passion for helping others by obtaining his Master’s in Licensed Professional Counseling.  He pursued his second career serving as a therapist on Pittsburgh’s North Side, where he and Christopher resided in the Mexican War Streets neighborhood since 2001.

Dennis leaves behind his older brother, Richard Nigra of Washington, D.C., grandsons, Jake and Max Rampino, Godson Brandon Pacchioni, numerous cousins, and many dear friends across Pittsburgh, the U.S.A. and Canada. His absence will be profoundly felt by all who knew him, but his legacy of kindness and spirited laughter will endure.

Friends will be welcomed by his family on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. at the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main St., Leechburg, 724-842-1051. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Animal Friends, 562 Camp Horne Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15237; or the Hyde Park Museum, c/o Kathleen Baker, 339 First Ave., Hyde Park, PA  15641 – both organizations being close to Dennis’ heart.
