Arnold J. Ferrando passed peacefully on February 27, 2024 at Chesterwood Nursing Care in West Chester, Ohio.
Arnold was a lifelong resident of Allegheny Township, except for the time he spent serving his country in the military. He enjoyed designing and building things. He built the building that became Leechburg Auto Parts, a family business for 53 years. He also built his home where he raised his family.
He served the community in various capacities. He was president of the Leechburg Lions Club and also president of the Allegheny Township Business and Professional Men. Arnold was an original board member of the organization that started the Lower Kiski Ambulance Service. The ambulance service began with nothing but a 1966 Cadillac ambulance donated by Clawson’s Funeral Home. Today, the service benefits the entire Valley with not only highly trained personnel, but also the most advanced equipment.
Arnold’s greatest pleasure was enjoying his time with his beloved wife, Jennie, and his family. Arnold and Jennie loved to travel both in and out of the country, making numerous trips to various places in Europe. They particularly enjoyed spending time with their extended family in Italy. Especially when these trips included their entire family.
Arnold is survived by his three children, his daughter, Kathleen D. (Ferrando) Trunzo and her husband, James V. Trunzo of Wake Forest, NC; son, Dr. Arnold A. Ferrando, retired Army LTC and his wife, Sabra (Miller) Ferrando of Little Rock, Arkansas; and son, James E. Ferrando, retired Colonel in the U.S. Army, and his wife, Michelle (Kirk) Ferrando of Mason, OH. He is also survived by two granddaughters and two great-granddaughters, Stephanie Trunzo (Ryan Malynn) and her daughter, Adelaide of Raleigh, NC, and Jenna Trunzo (Jon Armitage) and her daughter, Vivian of Wake Forest, NC.
Friends will be welcomed by his family on Sunday, March 10, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. at the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main St., Leechburg, 724-842-1051. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 11, at Christ The King Church, 125 Park Rd., Gilpin Township, with the Rev. Alan N. Polczynski as celebrant. Military honors will be conducted by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard. Private interment will follow in St. Catherine Cemetery in Gilpin Township.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Arnold’s name to Crossroads Hospice Charitable Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
