Phyllis S. (Slonaker) Klingensmith, 89, of Gilpin Twp., PA, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2017 at Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights.

A daughter of the late Paul Slonaker and Eleanor (Wolever) Slonaker, she was born April 23, 1927, in Pittsburgh, PA.

Phyllis was a homemaker and member of Hebron Evangelical Lutheran Church in Leechburg, WELCA and her church’s sewing group.  For over 50 years, she served in the Girls Scouts of America.  Phyllis had been a former elementary teacher in the Burrell School District until her marriage.  She enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles as well as word search and crossword puzzles, going to camp, picking huckleberries and apples, taking walks and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her son, William P. Klingensmith (Lori) of Gilpin Twp., PA; three daughters, Nancy Fondrk (Robert Wilson) of Allegheny Twp., PA, Jeanne Rosenbaum (Donald) of Massillon, OH, Linda Hawk (Robert) of Gilpin Twp., PA; eight grandchildren, Lisa Klingensmith, Lindsey Simon (John), Amie Yergin (Harvey), Aaron Rosenbaum (Alyssa), Heidi Allen (Clark), Ashley Loughner (Sheldon), Jason Hawk, Christopher Hawk; nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Klingensmith on February 16, 2013.

Friends welcomed by her family on Monday, January 16, 2017 from 3-7 PM at Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main Street, Leechburg (724-842-1051).  Additional visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10:30-11 AM, the time of services at Hebron Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 Main Street, Leechburg, with the Reverend James V. Arter III officiating.  Interment following at Greenwood Memorial Park, 104 Melwood Road, Lower Burrell.
