Leon R. Claypool, 84, of Leechburg, PA, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2017 at Logan Place in Lower Burrell.

A son of the late Wesley D. Claypool and Genevieve O. (Grafton) Claypool, he was born August 2, 1933, in Slate Lick, PA.

A Korean War veteran, Leon served four years in the U.S. Navy and four years active reserve duty.  He worked as a welder for Allegheny Ludlum, West Leechburg and Bagdad Plants for 30 years retiring in 1997.  He was a member of the Allegheny Presbyterian Church in Allegheny Twp., the VFW in Natrona Heights,  the American Legion in Lower Burrell and the Masonic Lodge in Lower Burrell as well as being a Shriner (Syria Mosque).  As hobbies, Leon enjoyed model trains and fishing.

Survivors include his daughter, Layne A. Ralph (Christopher R.) of Upper Burrell, PA; and two grandchildren, Derek and Brienne Ralph.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis D. (Kijowski) Claypool on January 1, 2007; brothers, Elton D. and Lincoln Claypool; sisters, Mildred G. Moore, Lenore E. Murray and Josephine C. Claypool.

Friends welcomed by his family on Friday, August 18, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main Street, Leechburg (724-842-1051).  Funeral ceremonies will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, August 19, at the Allegheny Presbyterian Church, 1900 State Rt. 356, Allegheny Twp., with Lay Pastor Lloyd A. Riggle Jr. officiating.  Interment following at Greenwood Memorial Park, 104 Melwood Road, Lower Burrell, with military rites conducted by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard.
