Jason E. Sappe, 44, of Gilpin Township, PA, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.

Born May 6, 1971, in New Kensington, PA, the son of Eugene and Linda (Warnick) Sappe, of Gilpin Township, PA.

Jason was employed for 17 years, as a Police Officer, for the Buffalo Township Police Department, Sarver, PA. He was a veteran with the U.S. Army, during the Persian Gulf War. Jason earned the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Badge which qualified him as a specialist for the Army's preeminent tactical and technical explosives experts. He was a licensed Captain in the western Waterways. Jason loved fishing, hunting, boating and cooking. He enjoyed cooking for his family and friends; enjoyed making his homemade wine; and enjoyed spending time with his family. Jason was of the Christian faith; a member of the American Legion Schenley Post #775, Schenley, PA; a member of the Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators; and a lifetime NRA member.. He was a 1989 graduate of Lenape Vocational/Technical School, Ford City, PA, with a degree in welding; a graduate of the U.S. Army Ordinance School; a graduate from Westmoreland County Community College, Youngwood, PA, with an Associates degree in Criminal Justice; a graduate from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Indiana, PA, with a Bachelors of the Art degree in Criminal Law, in which Jason was class Valedictorian; a graduate of the Indiana Police Academy Act 120 Program; a NRA Law Enforcement Firearms and Tactical Shooting Instructor; and a PA State Police Firearms Instructor.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by sons, Levi Sappe (Shannon Cummins), of Hollywood, MD, Hunter Sappe, of Gilpin Township, PA, and Alaric Sappe, of Gilpin Township, PA; daughter, Jade Sappe, of Greensburg, PA, sister, Julia Sappe Lindemuth (David), of Leechburg, PA; maternal grandparents, Joseph and Helen (Rarie) Warnick, of West Leechburg, PA; and partner and companion, Connie Kovach-Reesman, of Gilpin Township, PA.

Friends welcomed by his family on Saturday from 4-8 PM and on Sunday from 2-8 PM at Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main Street, Leechburg (724/842-1051), where Law Enforcement will hold a tribute service honoring Jason's memory on Saturday at 4:30 PM. Funeral ceremonies will be held on Monday at 10:45 AM, at Forks-Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 253 Forks Church Road, Leechburg, PA 15656, with Pastor Greg McKim officiating. Interment following at Forks-Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery, 253 Forks Church Road, Leechburg, PA 15656, with military honors by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard.
