James William Mailki

April 5, 1949 ~ January 9, 2018 (age 68) 68 Years Old

James William Mailki, 68, of Allegheny Twp., PA, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Quality Life Services (West Haven Manor) in Washington Twp.

A son of the late Chasmer Frank Mailki and Anna Catherine (Litvik) Mailki, he was born April 5, 1949 in Harrison Twp., PA.

James was a 1967 graduate of Kiski Area High School and a U.S. Army veteran having served in Korea during the Vietnam War.  He had been employed starting as a laborer, then as an electrician and electrical technician, then supervisor of electric, electrical repair and machine shop with ATI/Allegheny Ludlum Steel in Bagdad and West Leechburg for 44 years until his retirement in April 2015 as Predictic Maintenance and Planning Supervisor.  For part-time electrical work, he worked for many area businesses including Rearick Tooling, Key Bellevilles, Toolcraft and Alpha Carb.  Additionally, James was a substitute teacher for a short time with Northern Westmoreland Career and Technical School.

James was a member of Christ the King Parish in Gilpin Twp. and former member of St. Catherine Roman Catholic Church in Leechburg.  James was a 3rd  Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus organization where he served as Vice President, Grand Knight and Financial Secretary.  At St. Catherine Cemetery, he donated his time to wiring the new funeral chapel.

He was a former member of Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop 502 of Allegheny Twp. serving as a committee member, Cub Master, Scout Master and committee Chairman spending many summer vacations at Boy or Cub Scout Camps.  While he was Cub Master, he started the cubs collecting food at Thanksgiving to give a needy family a basket and gift card to purchase a turkey.  Usually it was a member of the Pack.  As a member of the Moraine Trail Council Roundtable Staff, he and his wife Carol were the activities directors and leader trainers.  For many years as Day Camp Director (when he was Scout Master of Troop 502), he took the scouts travelling on many trips, including to the Adirondacks in New York, Washington D.C. and Gettysburg.  James received the District Award of Merit for River Valley District, Member of Order of Arrow-Moraine Trails Council.

James was a former member of the Allegheny Twp. Lions where he served as Vice President, King Lion and Tail Twister.  For more than 10 years, he was the Chairman for the Allegheny Twp. Community Days Committee.  He and his wife Carol received the Citizen of the Year Award for their community service.

His hobbies included camping (spent most weekends during the summer at Wheel-in Campground in Shelocta, PA), and woodworking (making little wooden toys, puzzles and classic car models, wishing wells and some furniture).  James loved flying his remote control airplanes and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Carol (Smith) Mailki of Allegheny Twp., PA; two sons, Steven Michael Mailki (Carol) of Adrian, PA, Christopher James Mailki (Stephanie) of New Kensington, PA; two daughters, Heather Ann Mclain (Troy) of Birgden-Gangelt, Germany, Amanda Marie Cyphert (Eric) of Vandergrift, PA; nine grandchildren: William Cyphert, Sabrina Trim, Lukas Cyphert, Christopher James “CJ” Mailki Jr., Lucas Mclain, Isaac Mclain, Eli Mclain, Harper Mclain, Andrew Cyphert; two sisters, Martha Kramer of Cleveland, OH, Rosemary Whalen of Pittsburgh, PA; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Marie Mailki in 1981; and two brothers, Robert and Charles Mailki.

Friends welcomed by his family on Monday, January 15, 2018 from 6-8 PM and on Tuesday, January 16, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main Street, Leechburg (724-842-1051).  Parting Prayers of Transfer will be held at 9:15 AM on Wednesday, Jan. 17, at the funeral home, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at Christ the King Parish, 125 Park Road, Gilpin Twp., with the Reverend Arnel Estrella officiating.  Interment following at St. Catherine Cemetery, 614 Evergreen Road, Gilpin Twp. with military honors.
