Just happened to see this. I am so very saddened to hear of George's passing. I remember him from high school, such a kind young man. (I graduated in '62). We need more people like George in our world.

Dolly, Andrew, and Pam,
I was heart broken when Zeb let me know of George's passing last week. He was a good friend and a great person. I fondly remember many, many times on the porch of the family home on Canal Street. Please accept my deepest condolences and hope that God takes care of you during this difficult time. Haven't been able to stop the memories going through my mind. Still hear Autumn Leaves in my mind. Thinking of you all.

Mr. Mamros was one of a kind. A formidible man, he intimidated so many of his students... at first. Once you got to know him and offered him the due respect that he deserved, Mr. Mamros became one of the best educators that you would ever have the privilege of being taught by. He was there for me when my mother passed away in 1989 as I enetered into my 6th grade year at Leechburg Elementary, where I was in his class. He was stern, yet only wanted the best out of you. I remember his laugh so well. I hear it now. Dolly, I am so sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in the fact that he was loved and respected by so, so many. You and your family did so much for me growing up. You are good people. So, today, I shall watch the one copy I hav of the highlight reels of the 1988 Blue Devil season that I still have on VHS... and still works! May you stay strong and know that he was feared by some, respected by many and loved by all. Sending my love from Dallas, TX to you and your family. -George Oberdorf

My sympathies go out to all of the Mamros Family. He was one of my favorite coaches, both when I played and for many years after. I always enjoyed running in to him at events around town.
