Gabriel Bruno

March 13, 1922 ~ January 6, 2018 (age 95) 95 Years Old

Gabriel Bruno, 95, of Allegheny Twp., PA, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights.

A son of the late Giacomo and Anna Bruno and stepson of the late Laura Bruno, he was born March 13, 1922, in San Pietro (Cosenza Province) Italy.

Gabriel was a U.S. Army Veteran having served as a Corporal during World War II and a Rifleman with Company A 110th Infantry in Rhineland, Germany and Central Europe.  In November 1944, he was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart Medal among other citations including the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. Unfortunately he was taken as a Prisoner of War held in Germany for a lengthy time.

After the war, Gabe worked as the manager of the Mechanical Test Lab Allegheny Ludlum West Leechburg Works for over 40 years.  He was a former member of St. Catherine Roman Catholic Church in Leechburg and member of the Allegheny Twp. Lions Club. He was also a member of the Southern Alleghenies Chapter of American Ex-Prisoners of War in Altoona, PA.  For many years he served as the Allegheny Twp. Little League President and Allegheny Twp. Supervisor.  Gabe was a loyal Pittsburgh Steelers fan holding season tickets since 1954.  He was an avid golfer, enjoyed gardening, and loved his numerous dogs through the years. However, his greatest love was his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Sue (Bowser) Bruno of Allegheny Twp., PA; his three sons, Timothy Bruno (Colleen) of Allegheny Twp., PA, Patrick Bruno (Joy) of Allegheny Twp., PA, Eric Bruno (Candace) of Monroeville, PA; and five grandchildren, Miranda, Thomas, Savannah, Allison and Jackson Bruno.

Friends and family will be welcomed on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main Street, Leechburg (724-842-1051) where funeral ceremonies will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, Jan. 10, with the Reverend Kenneth Zaccagnini officiating.  Entombment following at Greenwood Mausoleum, 104 Melwood Road, Lower Burrell, with military rites conducted by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard.
