Adelmo W. Mottillo, Sr., 92, of Leechburg, PA, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, in Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights, PA.
Born February 2, 1923, in Leechburg, PA, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Geraldine (Mattia) Mottillo.
Adelmo was employed for 30 years, as a Shipper in the Hot Mill, for Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation, West Leechburg, PA, before retiring in 1978. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace, East Vandergrift, PA, Leechburg Marconi Club and Leechburg VFW. Adelmo served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, from January, 1944 to February, 1946 with the Detached to MAG-25 Marine Air Group, during World War II. He served in Southwest Pacific Islands and in Zamboanga in the Philippine Islands. Adelmo enjoyed gardening, carpentry work, hunting, fishing, spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Mottillo played semi pro basketball for the former Leechburg Furns basketball team where he played against the Harlem Globetrotters.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Phyllis A. (Mihalik) Mottillo, of Leechburg, PA; son, Adelmo W. Mottillo, Jr. (Christine), of West Leechburg, PA; daughter, Linnette L. Stancik (Thomas), of Allegheny Township, PA; and 3 Grandchildren, Thomas Stancik (Lauren), Dalton Mottillo (Stephanie) and Elizabeth Mottillo.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Angelo J. Disciscio, Norman Disciscio, Gabriel Mottillo, Elmer G. Mottillo and Amerigo Mottillo; and sisters, Marie Wolverton, Cora M. Anthony, Geraldine M. Mazzon and Philomena Mrochek.
Friends welcomed by his family on Sunday from 2-5 PM at Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main Street, Leechburg (724/842-1051) where parting prayers of transfer will be held on Monday at 9:15 AM followed by a Christian funeral mass at 10 AM at Our Lady Queen of Peace, 400 Kennedy Avenue, East Vandergrift, PA, with his pastor, the Rev. Michael J. Sciberras, officiating.
